Stop the Progression of Vein Disease

Treatment stops it in its tracks.

Chronic Venus Insufficiency is a progressive disease that can have a devastating impact.

Understand the progression

The Stages of Venous Disease

It moves in one direction — worse — unless it is treated. Caught early, it is easy to stop.

  1. Stage One
    Cosmetic Issue

    Spider Veins

Spider Veins are a cosmetic condition that are treated with Sclerotherapy (spider vein injections). Each individual case will be evaluated by a specialist, and treatment will be performed by one of our certified nurses. An ultrasound is not required. Spider veins will not harm you if left untreated and this is not a medically necessary procedure. Non-surgical.

Lower legs at the earliest stage of venous disease — the skin is still clear, with no prominent surface veins
  2. Stage Two
    Bulging Veins

    Varicose Veins

Bulging Varicose veins are a medical problem. When veins bulge it means they are under pressure and there is something going on inside of the leg. An ultrasound is necessary and will be done in our accredited facility. Strict protocol will be followed during the Doppler Ultrasound examination to identify troubled veins and create a treatment plan.

Fine, web-like spider veins visible across the back of both lower legs
  3. Stage Three
    Advanced Venous Disease

    Swelling Of Legs And Ankles

When the valves fail, blood pools and pressure builds until fluid is forced out into the surrounding tissue. The legs and ankles swell, usually worse at the end of the day or after long periods of standing. Swelling means the disease has moved past the veins themselves and started to affect the leg around them.

Clustered reticular veins spreading across both lower legs and ankles as venous pressure builds
  4. Stage Four
    Advanced Venous Disease

    Skin Discoloration

Sustained pressure begins to damage the skin itself. The lower leg and ankle darken to a brown or reddish stain, and the skin can turn dry, firm or itchy. These changes tend to persist once they appear, and they are a warning that the skin is close to breaking down.

Reddish-brown discoloration developing over the lower legs and ankles, with dense surface veins beneath
  5. Stage Five
    Advanced Venous Disease

    Venous Ulcer

The skin breaks down and an open wound forms, most often near the ankle. Venous ulcers are slow to heal and tend to come back while the reflux underneath is left untreated. This is the most advanced stage of venous disease and it needs prompt medical attention — treating the diseased veins addresses the cause, not just the wound.

Advanced venous skin change — dark hyperpigmentation and thickened skin across the lower legs and ankles
